Q4B wip.

weeks 7 & 8

Do not for one moment think that just because I have not posted for a while we have been lagging. on the contrary we have been very busy cutting, cutting and cutting, then cutting with some more cutting. with a little bit of sewing here and there. We have so far completed 7 kits ready to be handed out to my quilting friends who have volunteered to help on this project.

and have received back some kits and I will take more pictures of them soon for y'all to see.

I have also started quilting them, so far three have been quilted and 5 more about to go into the quilting stage. with lots more tops ready and waiting for the batting and backing pairing up stage. 

Here are some new picture for you to see that we have been working along and even have some new faces come one board to help. Above first picture are Sue and Gutta busy sewing and preparing pieces. Next picture, Adi, Victoria and Marlyn posing just before leaving witha the pieces of a new quilt about to go up on the design wall. Next posting will be of more of the quilts that have been quilted, so, stay tuned.

QUITLS FOR BENJI

WEEK6

We are about to start working twice a week from this coming week, Sundays and Tuesdays.

 Anyone can come and work at any time they like, just call first to let me know when you would like to come

 With the help of Marlyn and Adie, we  managed to complete another quilt top.

 I also started to prepare a couple of kits, now mostly we will continue to prepare kits for the next few sessions of working, before all those little pieces get way out of hand.

Now for something not related to the Benji project but what I have been up to on the other days of the week. I have been working on this charming Double wedding ring quilt using my collection of Liberty and William Morris fabrics that have been in my stash for ages, using the "Quiltsmart" appliqué techinque wich makes it go really fast, and now have almost completed this quilt. just need to bind it and it is going on MY bed for the next seasonal change.

WEEK 5

No pictures of us this week, we were so busy cutting, cutting, pressing and cutting, but we are no still nowhere near all cut up, so, instead here or two pictures taken of the progress to the actual Ha Bayit Shel Benji

WEEK 4.

 Sue and Marlyn busy sewing away on the machines.

Rege pressing fabrics, and there is lots to press.

Ruth arrived with some goodies.. or badies... depending on which side of the scale we are at the moment, but they are yummy, we have enough for next week too.

We managed to complete another quilt top this evening.  Shown off here by Monika and Adie.

 And another quilt completed by Monika at home, she has tucked another one under her arm to take home to complete, we will soon have our first ten quilts completed by next week (YESH)

QUILTS FOR BENJI

 WEEK 3

Here are some pictures of the first 5 quilt tops completed.

The first quilt and the fourth quilt are using the same pattern with a different color for the pieced blocks. they both look great. There are more coming soon.

 the second quilt completed by Zehava, using yardage and 5 inch squares.

Quilt idea was taken from a quilt posted on the "All people quilt" site. The original was for a baby quilt, but I adjusted the sizing and it turn out really great. Seems a good pattern to make more of.

 This third quilt is a "Turning Twenty quilt except it is more like a turning thirty quilt in order for it to be the correct size, These really are very quick to make. and we can use the leftovers for a second helping quilt, wow, 2 for the price of 1, what a bargain.

 Same as quilt 1 made up by Irena, we just need to add another row to complete it to the correct size.

 Zehava also made this quilt from her own collection of fabrics.

Taken from the book Happy Hour, it is the quilt called "Snapshot" and seems to be a popular choice for the quilts. it works on the same principal as the first and third quilts, just different sizes for cutting, using fat quarters instead of strips and squares.

This coming Sunday 6th November, we will be working from 2pm till 10pm

to accomodate those quilters who would like to come during the day instead of the evening, as well as those coming after work. There are some more quilts coming in all the time, and more quilts being completed.

WHAT AN AMAZING DAY

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CAME

 it was not easy getting everyone all sorted out and delegating jobs all at the same time, but we did manage, after a slow start,  to get things moving. There was lots to sort out, and most of the day was spent with cutting and sorting. 

I had previously managed to make 3 kits and some of the girls managed to start sewing right away. 

I will be better organized next time. now that we have everything rolling along.

Kareen and friend started on those colorful gradations and cut up a
rainbow of colors for a future project.

Even little Danielle managed to help her grandma to sort those pesky scraps

We can always find Mom in the kitchen at parties, the best helper in the world always ready to help at the drop of a hat, and finds herself on "kitchen duty" again, thanks mom.

Also a thanks to those girls who did not make it into the picture, every little bit helps, and of course PHIL without whom this girl just could not have coped if you were not around. thanks for all the running, schlepping fetching carrying, cutting (no not the fabrics the salad). And always with a smile.

It was a great start to a wonderful project. we will continue on Sunday again for the continuation and completion of a the first few tops in progress, and, by then, we will have more fabrics to complete more kits. Everyone had fun, and it was a really feel good day. See you again soon.

LAUNCH DAY

WITH A

QUILT-A-THON

Time to update.

Time to update,
there is a soo much happening, I need to start somewhere. So I will start this new section off with telling you a bit about our recent trip to London and France.
It was the European Quilt Festival in Ste Marie Aux Mines, Alsace, Lorraine, France, near Strasbourg. Israel was one of the guest countries highlighted this year.
Two of my pieces went to the show,this was extremely exciting for me as I have not really exhibited much, only just recently starting to get the confidence to show my work. Hubby suggested we go along, there was no way I was going to so no to this wonderful opportunity. So, we went.
We started off in London seeing as we have a family apartment there and it is familiar ground. we took the Euro Express to Paris and from there another train to Strasbourg. On Thursday 15th September we drove to the Area of St Marie Aux Mines about an hour away. There are a few towns along that road that were hosting the show at various venues, the first stop was the one the Israeli Exhibit was held, so the first quilts we saw were our own, and the first quilt to see was mine. My Chuppah (Marriage canopy) was the first to see as everyone needed to walk under it to get to the rest of the display.

Hubby enjoyed standing under it and watching the visitors and listening to the comments, so while I continued looking at the rest of the exhibit he stayed put for awhile. 

 It was really nice to see everyone taking pictures and admiring the works, especially sweet. was seeing the school kids and their teachers explaining and talking about quilting, they all seemed to enjoy seeing the textures, colors, and designs, hoping up and down pointing and generally enjoying themselves on this outing.

 My other quilt is this on called "Spring is in the Air" It started out as a challenge for me to use the ugliest fabrics in my stash, which, when adding the white made them stand out like jewels, then into each white circle I embroidered a different butterfly, and one bird, all the while singing the song in my head to the tune of "Love is in the Air", so it was named. It was also exhibited in Jerusalem last year in an exhibition called "Spring". That was the second time that I had entered a quilt for show.
There's me... ta da.

 This was the hall our exhibit was in, these banners were outside each venue so it was easy to  spot where to go.

 Here is a view of the part of the streets of Ste Marie Aux Mines, So very quaint and charming. The weather was just perfect for such a day.

At the end of the day I realized I had not taken nearly as many pictures as I would have liked, there will be more coming of the quilts from of my friends and a few more from some of the other exhibits. I am sure that anyone who would like to know more about this event can google it and will be able to see more than what I have. There was just so much to see .
At the end of the day we went back to Strasbourg, we were dog tired from all the walking around, and our heads were filled with all we had seen. it was great, but, we had seen and done what we needed to and decided to return to london the next day.

Back in London on our second last day, we took ourselves off to a shop we haven't been to in a long time "The Quilt Room" in Dorking, home of the Jelly Roll, and I filled my hand luggage, wheely bag, to the brim, in anticipation of the next exciting BIG project I have planned, starting next month.
I will be blogging about it.
A Hint... 50 quilts for 50 beds.....in one year. Starting on October 16th with a QUILT-A-THON.
